<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a receiving device and receiving method capable of obtaining high quality video and audio with less influence of jitter. <P>SOLUTION: A receiving device comprised an HDMI receiving and transmitting part 220 and an HDMI receiving part 230. The HDMI receiving and transmitting part 220 includes an HDMI receiver 221 having an HDMI receiving function and an HDMI transmitter 222 having an HDMI transmitting function. The HDMI receiving and transmitting part 220 receives a TMDS signal transmitted from a disk reproduction device 100 as a source and extracts a video signal and audio signal included in the TMDS signal to be restored. Then, the HDMI receiving and transmitting part 220 outputs the audio signal to a reproduction signal processing and amplifying part 240 and converts the video signal into the TMDS signal to transmit to the HDMI receiving part 230.
