Disclosed is a cathode for a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery, wherein a cathode mixture layer comprises cathode activated particles and a binder. A curve denoting the correlation between the distance from a current collector in the thickness direction of the cathode mixture layer and the quantity of the binder has a first maximum, a minimum, and a second maximum. The minimum corresponds to an intermediate location in the thickness direction of the cathode mixture layer. The first maximum corresponds to a location closer to the current collector than the location corresponding to the minimum. The second maximum corresponds to a location further from the current collector than the location corresponding to the minimum. The ratio W1/W2 of the weight (W1) of the binder to 100 parts by weight of the cathode activated particles, and the weight (W2) of the binder to 100 parts by weight of the cathode activated particles, at the first maximum and the minimum, respectively, is greater than two.
