This invention provides an image processing apparatus wherein: an image capturing unit captures a subject that includes the face of a person wearing a pair of glasses used for viewing three-dimensional images each including first and second parallax images obtained by viewing, from different viewpoints, the subject in a three-dimensional space; a pair-of-glasses determining unit (306) determines the pair of glasses from images of the subject captured by the image capturing unit; a face detecting unit (308) detects, based on the pair of glasses determined by the pair-of-glasses determining unit (306), the face area of the person from the images of the subject captured by the image capturing unit; and wherein an augmented-reality producing unit (314) adds a virtual feature to the face area of the person detected by the face detecting unit.
