PURPOSE: A semiconductor light emitting device is provided to arrange a p-side electrode and n-side electrode in the outside of a light emitting part, thereby improving optical extraction efficiency by reducing light absorption by the p-side electrode and n-side electrode. CONSTITUTION: A light emitting part(5) is arranged on an insulating substrate(10). The light emitting part comprises a first semiconductor layer(30), a second semiconductor layer(50), and an active layer for generating light. A current spreading electrode(60) is arranged on the second semiconductor layer of the light emitting part. A first branch electrode(85) is electrically connected to the first semiconductor layer exposed by a groove(35). A second branch electrode(75) is electrically connected to the current spreading electrode.
