[Class 1 (i)] A waterproofing and adhesive emulsion comprises a polymeric organic film-forming material dispersed in a water phase containing a watersoluble polyvinyl alcohol and an organic complex of the Werner type in which a trivalent chromium atom is comomed with a carboxylic acids group having at least 10 carbon atoms. The preferred complex is stearato chromic chloride, and the film-forming compound may be polymerized vinyl acetate, a cellulose, derivative &c. In a typical example, 57 parts of vinyl acetate polymer and 3 parts of polyvinyl alcohol are emulsified in 40 parts of water, 86.4 parts of the emulsion are mixed with 8.6 parts of dibutyl phthalate and 5 parts of a 16 per cent. methanol solution of stearato chromic chloride.
