摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a phase difference element having a small deviation from a desired alignment direction and a display device comprising the same. <P>SOLUTION: In a phase difference element 30, a phase difference layer 32 is formed on a surface of an alignment layer 31. The alignment layer 31 has such a structure that a non-oriented thin film 50 is formed on a surface of a substrate 40. The non-oriented thin film 50 is formed following surfaces of a plurality of fine grooves 42A, 42B formed on the surface of the substrate 40. Many molecules on a surface of the non-oriented thin film 50 do not have orientation and are oriented in random directions, which mitigates an influence on the phase difference layer 32 of the molecule orientation on the surface of the substrate 40 (particularly, the surfaces of the fine grooves 42A, 42B) which is a foundation. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT
