<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately detect the outer periphery edge of an end of a material wood regardless of the color of the end thereof. <P>SOLUTION: The outer periphery edge detector includes an image acquisition unit 11 for acquiring, as first image and second image, two picked up images of the ends 101A and 101B so that the positions of the material wood 100 in the images are different from each other, a parallax map-preparing unit 13 for preparing a parallax map where the parallax of the first image to the second image is expressed as a pixel value of each pixel, an end region-specifying unit 14 for specifying, as an end region, the pixel region where the difference between the pixel value and the average pixel value of a predetermined center zone in the parallax map is within a predetermined range, and an end outer periphery edge-specifying unit 15 for specifying, as an end outer periphery edge, the outer periphery edge of the end region.
