The system (10) has a supporting surface (11) for a laminar body i.e. animal skin (13), and a cutting device (14) with a cutting unit i.e. rotary cutter (20), for cutting the body. Two detection units (26, 26') detect topography of the supporting surface and/or the body, where one of the detection units is formed as a laser-triangulation distance meter. A tracking device tracks the cutting unit based on the topography. The tracking corresponds to height regulation of the cutting unit based on the topography. A computer (22) transmits control commands to the cutting device. An independent claim is also included for a method for cutting blank parts.
