The mechanism has a force transmitting member i.e. Bowden cable, held by a vehicle-fixed frame (3). A hand brake lever (2) is supported in the transmitting member in a lengthwise manner, where pivoting of the hand brake lever deflects the transmitting member in a transverse direction such that triggering of braking operation is reduced in a longitudinal direction. A Bowden cable core (7) passes via the frame under the hand brake lever in a vehicle longitudinal direction, and is attached at a front part and/or back part of the frame. A pressure roller (8) extends in the transverse direction.
