<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To measure the color of a measuring image in stable state while minimizing the waiting time from when the measuring image used for calibration of recording characteristics is dried till when measurement is started in an inkjet recorder. <P>SOLUTION: Based on the information of ink types and the information of the quantity of ink to be placed, a waiting time Ts is determined with reference to a waiting time reference table A (step 6). In addition, a dried recording sheet is conveyed to a waiting area 9 and stopped (step 7), the time T after stoppage is clocked, and measurement processing of next process is waited until the time T reaches the waiting time Ts. When the waiting time Ts is reached, density of a patch recorded on the recording sheet is measured using a measuring instrument 10 (steps 8 and 9). Consequently, a recording head can be calibrated in a state with no excess or shortage in the waiting time after drying before measurement.
