<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader capable of attaining energy saving of use power by effectively generating electric power while suppressing cost increases and regardless of during scanning operations and standby. <P>SOLUTION: The image reader 101 includes a scanner optical system 120 including an illumination lamp 121 for illuminating a manuscript 110 and a sensor 122 for receiving reflected light from the manuscript illuminated by the illumination lamp and a photoelectric conversion panel 130 which receives light and converts optical energy into electric power.
