<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a controller for an internal combustion engine which controller achieves an improvement in fuel consumption and power output performance while taking into consideration fluctuation of an actual compression ratio to a target compression ratio (compression ratio fluctuation). <P>SOLUTION: A fluctuation range of an actual compression ratio from a specific target compression ratio (compression ratio fluctuation range) is not always optimum. For this reason, when an engine is operated with a compression ratio kept almost constant, an actuator 15 that drives a variable compression ratio mechanism is controlled so that the maximum of a deviation between the target compression ratio and the actual compression ratio changes depending on an operation status of the engine. Specifically, the fluctuation range of the actual compression ratio to the specific target compression ratio (compression ratio fluctuation range) is changed depending on the operation status of the engine to achieve an improvement in fuel consumption and power output. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
