A method for eliciting and sustaining an anti-tumor immune response is carried out by administering a device containing an amount of antigen sufficient to stimulate an innate immune response and an adaptive immune response. A method for eliciting and sustaining an anti-tumor immune response is also carried out by administered a plurality of devices, e.g., a first antigen-loaded acellular biomaterial device (PLG vaccine) at a first time point to stimulate an innate immune response and an adaptive immune response and administering a second device to a second anatomical site at a second time point to prolong the adaptive immune response.
