<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a radio system which is capable of searching a base station surely and in short time by simplifying an operation to search a base station even if the base station which can communicate with a mobile station is in a non-normal transmission state. <P>SOLUTION: In the case that a base station 1 becomes a non-normal transmission mode after a power source has been switched from commercial power supply to a backup battery, a normal transmission signal is not transmitted. A mobile station 5 cannot communicate with the base station 1 unless at the mobile station 5, a channel designation of the base station 1 and a press operation are performed. At the mobile station 5, channels of the base station 1 registered in it are designated in order, polling to transmit a synchronous burst at a designated channel is performed. When the base station 1 of the designated channel receives the synchronous burst, the base station 1 switches to a temporary normal transmission mode, thereby communication with the mobile station becoming possible.
