<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a power-saving and user-friendly multifunctional image forming apparatus that allows printed matters discharged on a paper discharge tray to be easily picked up without being left behind. <P>SOLUTION: The multifunctional image forming apparatus includes, as spatial sensors for detecting an object that blocks a specific space region in a paper discharge section 30, a laser light emitting unit 72 provided at one upper end of the specific space region, a laser light receiving unit 73 provided at the other upper end, and laser reflection units 74 (74-1, 74-2, and 74-3) provided at upper and lower parts between them. The apparatus further includes an illuminating unit 70 for illuminating a paper-discharge face of a paper discharge tray 33 of the paper discharge section 30, and a human sensor (not shown) provided at the front of the paper discharge section. When the human sensor detects a sign of a person, the spatial sensor operates.
