DISPLAY DEVICE AND ITS DRIVING METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device which consumes less electric power during a period of written image retention.

SOLUTION: A display device comprises a liquid crystal display panel driven by electric power supplied from a converter or a backup circuit. During a writing operation with large load, a fixed potential is supplied using the converter and a capacitor is charged. For an image retention time with small load, the fixed potential may be supplied preferentially from the capacitor without using the converter.
