PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that when a video portion corresponding to a selected subtitle sentence is searched for and begins to be reproduced, reproduction continues until a stop instruction is received from a user or to the end, which is not convenient for the user.

SOLUTION: Once a user selects a subtitle sentence, a control unit 19 displays the video portion corresponding to the subtitle sentence on a display unit 15. Then the control unit 19 acquires a playback time for which the selected subtitle sentence is to be reproduced from a storage unit 17. The control unit 19 starts a playback of the video portion corresponding to the selected subtitle sentence and measures the time from the start of the playback. When the measured time reaches the playback time acquired from the storage unit 17, the control unit 19 temporarily stops the playback.
