<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a character handwriting input device which is able to provide effective guidance regarding input position of characters to be handwritten, adequately avoiding visual noise. <P>SOLUTION: A character handwriting input device 1 includes a guiding line generation/deletion unit 64 and the guiding line generation/deletion unit 64 displays an input guiding line on a display panel 3: a straight line extends from a benchmark character detected by a benchmark character detection unit 62 to peripheral edge of a display panel 3, determined based on an input direction detected by an input direction detection unit 63.
