<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display device capable of displaying an image with reduced flickering by scanning light beams. <P>SOLUTION: There is provided an image display device 10 for displaying an image by scanning a plurality of light beams modulated according to image information. The image display device 10 has: light source units 101R, 101G and 101B for supplying the plurality of light beams; and a scanning unit 200 for scanning the plurality of light beams in a first direction X and in a second direction Y substantially perpendicular to the first direction X on a surface S to be irradiated with the light beams. The scanning unit 200 is driven such that a frequency at which the light beams are scanned in the first direction X is set higher than a frequency at which the light beams are scanned in the second direction Y.
