An electrical power cable has an outer semi - conductive layer (24) extruded around and in contact with an outermost layer of a cable jacket (22). The jacket (22) may have a plurality of polymeric layers (22 - 1, 22 - 2). The semi - conductive layer (24) is distinguishable from the outermost layer of the jacket (22)1 immediately underneath it by at least color and possibly also texture. The distinguishable characteristics between the semi - conductive layer (24) and the outermost layer of the jacket (22) decrease the risk of inadvertent damage to the jacket (22) when removing the semi - conductive layer (24) for jacket integrity tests.
