The laser is provided at a combustion chamber-side end of a housing in an opposite side of a combustion chamber window. The housing includes a cover plate for passing the laser radiation into a combustion chamber (14). An inner contour of the cover plate includes an edge in a region, which is spaced from a cover plate end facing toward the combustion chamber and from another cover plate end facing away from the combustion chamber. Length of the aperture is 12 mm. #CMT# : #/CMT# The combustion chamber is a transparent window formed from a durable heat-resistant and radiation-hard body such as glass, crystal, and sapphire.
