PURPOSE: A light emitting device and a manufacturing method thereof are provided to multiply an optical extraction efficiency by changing a refraction angle of light by the patterning of an edge area. CONSTITUTION: A light emitting structure comprises a first conductive semiconductor layer, an active layer(130), and a second conductive semiconductor layer. The light emitting structure is etched from the second conductive semiconductor layer to the first conductive semiconductor layer and a part of the first conductive semiconductor layer is exposed. A first electrode(170) is formed in an exposing part of the first conductive semiconductor layer. A second electrode(160) is formed on the second conductive semiconductor layer. An edge area of the second conductive semiconductor layer drops about horizontal line phase of the light emitting structure.
