<p>A powertrain system comprising an internal combustion engine 1 having an intake manifold 2 and an exhaust manifold 3, an intake air circuit 12 feeding air to the intake manifold 2, and an exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) circuit 4, 5 comprising a recirculation pipe 4 connecting the exhaust manifold 3 to the intake manifold 2 and preferably being thermally coupled to the cylinder head. The intake air circuit 12 comprises at least one two-phase cooling system 10 wherein a cooling fluid at least partially undergoes an evaporation when it is thermally coupled, via a radiator, to the intake air charge, for cooling the intake air before it enters the intake manifold 2. Cooling the combined intake air and EGR gas charge by cooling the intake air allows the EGR circuit to remain clear of cooling apparatus and therefore have a much reduced risk of clogging.</p> |
