Disclosed is a driver assist system that based on road conditions, informs the driver that further actuation of the accelerator pedal is not required. The system has a device for detecting traffic signs and/or for receiving and for processing information from the traffic sign and/or geographical data eg GPS data, particularly with respect to downhill routes, and/or other road users in other motor vehicles. The system may determine the distance to the road sign or other vehicle. The system may be linked to a navigation system. The device may have a camera to detect traffic signs. The system may increase the resistance of the accelerator pedal or vibrate accelerator pedal when further actuation is not needed.
