An optoelectronic transceiver comprising a transmitter optical subassembly, a receiver optical subassembly, memory configured to store digital values representative of a plurality of operating conditions of the optoelectronic transceiver and comparison logic configured to compare respective digital values of said digital values with corresponding limit values to generate flag values. The optoelectronic transceiver also includes an interface configured to receive, from a host external to the optoelectronic transceiver, a first request for a first plurality of flag values associated with a particular operating condition. The first request includes a first specified memory address. The optoelectronic transceiver responds to the host with a first plurality of flag values associated with the first specified memory address.
