<p>A method of fowling an opal layer on an optically transparent alkali-silicate glass sheet, wherein a liquidus viscosity of the alkali silicate glass forming the sheet is at least about 200,000 poise, a liquidus temperature of the alkali silicate glass is equal to or less than about 1200° C. and wherein the exposed surface of the glass sheet after the exposing comprises an opal layer. The method includes exposing a surface of the optically transparent alkali silicate glass sheet to an alkali metal salt bath at a temperature equal to or greater than 300° C. for at least 5 minutes.</p> |
