The method involves measuring spatial distribution of thermal radiation or variations in the time of thermal radiation emitted by a thermal scene (4) formed of an emissive or hot area of a person (6). A thermal radiation area is identified on the measured spatial distribution. Changes in time of the identified thermal radiation area are monitored. Human movement is estimated from the change of the identified thermal radiation area. An independent claim is also included for a device for capturing movement of a person.
