The method involves obtaining (900) a data packet transmitted by a source device or a destination device. Information representative of loss rate of the packet on a part of a transmission path between the source and destination devices is obtained (902). A transmission mode is selected (908) from a first transmission mode using a single transport protocol, and a second transmission mode using transport protocols encapsulating without and with acknowledgment. The packet is transmitted by enabling the selected transmission mode.
