METHOD FOR SIMULTANEOUSLY TRANSMITTING WIDE AND NARROW OPTICAL BEACON SIGNALS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an improved beacon system for supporting free-space optical communication.

SOLUTION: There is provided a method for simultaneously transmitting wide and narrow optical beacon signals. The method comprises: generating a laser beam; splitting the laser beam into a first signal on a first path and a second signal on a second path; and generating a wide beacon signal from the first signal. In the method, it is included that the wide beacon signal has a first beam divergence. The method comprises generating a narrow beacon signal from the second signal, in which the narrow beacon signal has a second beam divergence that is less than the first beam divergence. The method comprises simultaneously transmitting the wide and narrow beacon signals.
