<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem of enlarged retrieval index that requires an adequate amount of accumulated past retrieval information and processing being complicated and time-consuming. <P>SOLUTION: A retrieval device 1 includes: retrieval index 2 for storing correspondence relation between an entry word and a document including the entry word; retrieval index management means 3, and document retrieval means 4. When a first document is registered with a retrieval object document aggregation, the retrieval index management means 3 registers a word included in the first document with the retrieval index 2 as an entry word for the first document, in the case the word is already registered with the retrieval index 2 as an entry word. A word that is yet not registered with the retrieval index 2 as an entry word is registered with the retrieval index 2 as an entry word for the first document at the time when a second document quoting the first document is requested to be registered with the retrieval object document aggregate.
