<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately detect a traveling direction even when the traveling direction of a person who wears a device is different from a direction that the device faces. <P>SOLUTION: A traveling direction of a person who wears a device in relation to an absolute azimuth direction can be calculated by: detecting a direction that the device is facing using an output of an orientation sensor; projecting an acceleration change due to walking onto a horizontal surface using an acceleration data obtained through an acceleration sensor; and estimating a traveling direction on a coordinate system of the device from a direction indicated in a distribution of a group of points formed by projecting the acceleration change. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT
