发明名称 Improvements relating to the manufacture of light non-metallic structural material or components
摘要 577,790. Compound sheet materials. BRUYNE, N. A. De, AERO RESEARCH, Ltd., and DE HAVILLAND AIRCRAFT CO., Ltd. Aug. 29, 1938, Nos. 25297 and 31468. [Class 140] [Also in Groups V and XXXIII] A method of manufacturing light reinforced synthetic - resin structures in cellular form, applicable to the construction of aircraft &c. comprises laying or wrapping an unset resinimpregnated fibrous or filar reinforcement material, such as textile fabric, rove, sliver, &c, over or around a series of cores so that these cores, which are packed together substantially parallel, are each surrounded and continuously separated by the material, applying heat to the pack, applying pressure to the pack transversely to the cores, and withdrawing the cores endwise from the material, whereby a set cellular structure of reinforced resin is left. To produce a structure having hexagonal cells or passages, a mould bed 1, Fig. 1, is provided with ribs and grooves, and over it is applied a first layer 2 of resin-impregnated fabric, a series of hexagonal cores 3, a second layer 4 of impregnated fabric, a second series 5 of cores, and so on, the pack being completed by a platen 8 and then heated and compressed, after which the cores are withdrawn endwise. Alternatively, the cells may be of triangular, square, circular &c. crosssection. The outer surfaces of the cellular material may be covered by a sheet or skin of resin-impregnated or adhesive-treated material, such as laminated material or wood veneer, which may be applied prior to the application of heat and pressure to the pack. The set material, e.g., in the form of a plank or board, may have the cellular cross-section either transverse to the board &c. or in the plane thereof, the latter form being applicable to a tailplane &c. structure provided with a stressed skin. Such a skin may be formed by applying over the ends of the cell walls 36, Fig. 9, a layer of impregnated fabric 37, which is pressed down to form shallow pockets and is secured by stitching or stringing 38' at each side of the walls 36. The pockets are filled with unset resin 38, over which is laid a skin 39 of impregnated veneer, fabric, metal &c. the whole being set by heat and pressure. The cellular structure may be curved in cross-section. The cells may taper lengthwise.
