Injecting a reagent into the exhaust system of an internal combustion engine by using compressed air to supply the pressurized reagent to a spray pipe comprises determining if the spray pipe is blocked by reducing the reagent pressure (RP) and air pressure (AP), monitoring RP and AP over time to determine if there is a drop in pressure, and generating a fault signal if neither the RP drop nor the AP drop pass through a predetermined threshold value. An independent claim is also included for a device for operating an internal combustion engine, comprising a control unit adapted to carry out the above procedure. |
