<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device to reduce an image quality deterioration due to a view angle dependence in black display. <P>SOLUTION: In the liquid crystal display device, a pretilt angle of a liquid crystal molecule in a liquid crystal layer 21 is smaller than 2 degrees, the liquid crystal molecule rotates due to an electric field whose direction is parallel to a surface of a first substrate, a first optical anisotropic layer 10 is formed between a first polarizing plate 12 and the first substrate 31, it is nx≠ny≠nz assuming that a maximum refractive index in the surface of the first optical anisotropic layer is nx, a refraction index in a direction vertical to a direction having the maximum refractive index in the surface of the first optical anisotropic layer is ny, and a refraction index in a thickness direction of the first optical anisotropic layer is nz, the first optical anisotropic layer compensates a polarization status of a light with a wavelength of 550 nm incident on the first optical anisotropic layer assuming that a polar angle relative to a vertical direction to the surface of the first optical anisotropic layer is ϕ, and the first optical anisotropic layer has a dichroic maximum value in a range between 430 nm or more and 470 nm or less and has a dichroic maximum value in a range between 600 nm or more and 650 nm or less when ϕ≠0. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
