<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multi-directional input device which avoids an annular resilient member being clamped between a plate face of a movable unit and a housing, caused by the deformation of the housing. <P>SOLUTION: The multi-directional input device includes: a housing having a cavity connected to the outside via an opening 16, and having a protrusion 22 protruding inside the cavity; an operation body 7 having an operation unit 41 exposed from the aperture 16 and a movable unit 34 slide-moving in a plane direction inside the cavity so as to face opposite to protrusion 22; detection means for detecting the slide movement of the operation body 7; coil spring to restore the movable unit 34 to an initial position relative to the protrusion 22, in such a manner as to surround the protrusion 22 and the outer circumference side of the movable unit 34; and a plurality of retention bodies 8 having a retention plane 53 capable of housing at least the inner circumference side of the coil spring 9.
