The device has a stationary blade (10) arranged at a distance determining unit (2) that is arranged parallel to an axle (A) of a rotating drum (4). The stationary blade is placed perpendicular to the distance determining unit and a linear drive (1). The stationary blade exhibit length that is smaller than length of the rotating drum towards the axle of the rotating drum. A sensor element (3) i.e. force sensor, is arranged at the stationary blade. The distance determining unit comprises a marking apparatus (6) for formation of marks at goods (8) i.e. crops, to be cut by a cutting blade (5). An independent claim is also included for a method for determining wear of a cutting blade of a chaff cutter.
