The apparatus has a tracking device (24) for detecting eye positions of two different viewers (25, 26) of a matrix display screen (21) e.g. LCD screen. A control unit (28) is provided for inputting input commands for the viewers, where each of the commands independently defines a set of image contents e.g. TV program, and selectable playback modes. Two different excerpts are assigned for two eye positions of each viewer when an individual stereo display mode is selected as a playback mode. A set of stereoscopic half-images that are complementary to each other is reproduced on the excerpts. An independent claim is also included for a method for reproduction of images.
