An LED light source module and a method for improving the color rendering index of an LED light source. The method includes: S1) selecting or preparing a white LED and a red LED; S2) taking the white LED as a basic light source, utilizing the red LED to compensate the spectrum of the white LED, and constituting the LED light source module. The module includes a white LED and a red LED for compensating the spectrum of the white LED. The LED light source module has a simple structure and achieves a low cost for controlling the color rendering index.
