<p>Disclosed is a linear motor which includes a magnet assembly (17) and a coil assembly (26). The magnet assembly (17) is formed by accommodating a plurality of permanent magnets (18) in a pipe (13) of a non-magnetic metal provided on a reciprocating rod (11), with the ends of the magnets of the same polarity abutting against each other. The coil assembly (26) is formed by winding a plurality of coils (25) around the outer circumferential surface of a resin bobbin (21) so as to surround the magnet assembly (17), the bobbin (21) having a support inner circumferential surface (21c) formed entirely in the axial direction to contact the outer circumferential surface of the pipe (13). The bobbin (21) is formed of a resin material and thus eliminates the need of providing a predetermined air gap between the pipe (13) and the bobbin (21) to prevent the sliding contact between the pipe (13) and the bobbin (21). The support inner circumferential surface (21c) of the bobbin (21) is brought into contact with the outer circumferential surface of the pipe (13), thereby allowing the bobbin (21) to support the pipe (13) in a manner such that the pipe (13) can freely reciprocate.</p>
