<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a broadcast receiver and a control method thereof to prevent illegal viewing of contents. <P>SOLUTION: A digital broadcast receiver 100 applies a billing authentication system using a B-CAS card 115. A content management section 107 manages card ID and content ID by storing card ID of the B-CAS card 115, which is associated with a broadcast program, in a storage section 111 when recording the broadcast program. When contents stored in the storage section 111 is reproduced, a content reproduction control section 112 determines whether the stored card ID, which is associated with the contents, is equal to the card ID of the B-CAS card inserted in the device.
