<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a packaging material, along with a paper container, capable of preventing the occurrence of pinholes due to heating in forming the paper container, achieving high barrier properties, and improving efficiency of manufacture. <P>SOLUTION: The packaging material 10 includes: a polyethylene layer 11 being an outermost layer, which is sequentially disposed from an outer side to an inner side; a paper base material layer 12; a barrier coating layer 13; an adhesive layer 14; and a polyethylene layer 15 being an innermost layer.
