The furnace (101) has a furnace chamber (103) for heating a workpiece (102) e.g. gas pipe. A transport device (107) transports the workpiece through the furnace. An input field (104) and a holding portion (105) transport the workpiece using the transport device. A heating element (110) e.g. open gas burner, is retained in a retaining region (111) and heats the workpiece in the input field by increasing temperature in the holding portion. The heating element generates heat at a heating rate of about 20-30 K/s during transport of the workpiece through the input field. The gas burner is selected from a group comprising flameless gas burner and/or flame-afflicted gas burner.
