<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To inflate a metal airbag for protecting a pedestrian into a proper shape. <P>SOLUTION: The zigzag-folded metal airbag 18 is disposed between a side end portion 12a in a right-left direction of a windshield 12 of a vehicle and a front pillar 15 projecting toward a front of a vehicle body with respect to the side end portion 12a. With this configuration, the airbag device can be attached without largely changing the design of an existing vehicle body structure, and deterioration in appearance due to attaching the airbag device can be prevented. The airbag 18 is folded such that a straight line connecting each of peaks (a) and one of valleys b continuous with the peaks may be follow substantially an front-rear direction of the vehicle body. The vehicle body front side which increases in a pressure-receiving area by zigzag folding is largely inflated to the vehicle body front when the airbag 18 is inflated, and thus, shock absorbing performance can be improved by sufficiently ensuring strokes in deflating the airbag 18 when a pedestrian collides against the vehicle. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
