Disclosed is a process which is suitable for the large scale production of electrically conductive carrier particles having gold-modified platinum particles supported thereon. Specifically disclosed is a process for producing a fuel cell-related catalyst which comprises electrically conductive carrier particles having gold-modified platinum supported thereon. The process comprises: (1) a first step of mixing electrically conductive carrier particles having platinum supported thereon, a reducing agent and a copper precursor in a solution having a pH value of 2 or lower, wherein the ORP value of the solution is adjusted to a value higher than 0.337 V and not higher than 0.600 V with the reducing agent, and wherein both the reduction of the surface of platinum and the modification of the surface of platinum with copper can be achieved; and (2) a second step of adding a gold precursor to the mixed solution prepared in the first step and agitating the resulting mixture, thereby achieving the modification of the surface of platinum with gold. |
