BIPOLAR SECONDARY BATTERY

A battery unit housed in a case is constructed from a single laminated body, or a plurality of laminated bodies connected in series, comprising a plurality of bipolar electrodes that have been laminated with electrolyte layers positioned therebetween. One surface of a positive-pole collector plate and a negative-pole collector plate is joined to the inner peripheral surface of the case and another surface thereof is joined to one end of the battery unit, and the positive-pole collector plate and the negative-pole collector plate both extend outside of the case. A cut-off mechanism is provided to cut off the electrical connection between the positive-pole collector plate and the negative-pole collector plate established by way of the battery unit, in accordance with elongation deformations of the case. The current path in the bipolar secondary battery is interrupted when a short-circuit current is generated, to protect the bipolar secondary battery from the short-circuit current.
