Provided are: a maleimide compound which exhibits excellent photoelectric conversion characteristics, and a tautomer or stereoisomer thereof; a dye for photoelectric conversion; a semiconductor electrode; a photoelectric conversion element; and a photoelectrochemical cell. Specifically provided is a dye for photoelectric conversion which contains at least one compound represented by general formula (1) [wherein R1 is a direct bond, or substituted or unsubstituted alkylene; X is an acid group; D is an organic group that contains an electron-donating substituent; and Z is a connecting group that has at least one hydrocarbon group selected from among aromatic rings and heteroaromatic rings].
