PURPOSE: A light emitting diode and a method of fabricating the same are provided to improve light extraction efficiency by controlling the slope of a lower semiconductor layer differently. CONSTITUTION: In a light emitting diode and a method of fabricating the same, a plurality of light emitting cells are separated from each other in a substrate. A light emitting cell includes a lower semiconductor layer(55), an upper semiconductor layer(59), and an active layer(57). A transparent electrode layer(61) is formed in the top side of each light emitting cell. Wirings(69) connects adjacent cells electrically. An insulating layer(67) prevents the short circuit of a light emitting diode due to wires.
