<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coated paperboard preventing minute foreign matter from dropping off from a back layer, having high compressive strength and resistance to score crack obtained by adding bonding strength between fibers and especially excellent printability, and capable of weight reduction. <P>SOLUTION: The coated paperboard is provided with at least a front layer and a back layer, and the external surface of the front layer and the back layer are coated with an aqueous composition. The aqueous composition for coating back layer contains at least polyvinyl alcohol, starch and a cross-linking agent and the content of the starch in the aqueous composition for coating back layer is in the range of 25 to 75 mass% on a solid basis. The starch is preferably grafted and the cross-linking agent is preferably the salt of zirconium. The density of the back layer is preferably in the range of 0.5 to 0.9 g/cm<SP POS="POST">3</SP>.
