<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a degree-of-discomfort estimating apparatus capable of objectively estimating a degree of discomfort felt by a viewer due to periodic patterns on the basis of a luminance. <P>SOLUTION: A degree-of-discomfort estimating apparatus 1 includes a pixel luminance calculating unit 10 that calculates a pixel luminance that is a luminance of pixels of an image included in a video, degree-of-discomfort-by-resolution calculating units 20A to 20E that convert the image included in the video into plural resolutions on the basis of the pixel luminance, and that calculate degrees of discomfort by resolution which are caused by periodic patterns for plural resolutions so that the degrees of discomfort by resolution are greater as the periodic patterns have greater contrasts, a degree-of-discomfort calculating unit 30 that calculates a degree of discomfort by calculating a nonlinear sum of the degrees of discomfort by resolution, and a degree-of-discomfort correcting unit 40 that corrects the degree of discomfort by multiplying the previous degree of discomfort by a constant that is greater than 0 and less than 1, and adding the previous degree of discomfort multiplied by the constant to the present degree of discomfort. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
