METHOD FOR SELECTIVE CARBOHYDRATE OXIDATION USING GOLD CATALYST SUPPORTED ON CARRIER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gold catalyst usable for industrial production of aldonic acid from a proper carbohydrate starting material and improved compared with catalysts known as prior arts.

SOLUTION: There are provided a method for selective oxidation of at least one carbohydrate, a carbohydrate mixture or a composition containing the same, by reacting an aqueous solution of the carbohydrate, its mixture or composition in the presence of oxygen and the gold catalyst containing gold particles distributed in a nano-size dispersed manner on a metal oxide carrier; preferably the method for selectively oxidizing an aldehyde group of one or multiple carbohydrates to a carboxyl group.
